Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID, used for short term relief of pain and swelling. It works by inhibiting enzymes called COX-1 and COX-2, which lowers production of prostaglandins involved in inflammation. In online pharmacies it is offered in tablet or capsule forms in several strengths suitable for adults and sometimes for pediatric use under supervision.
Indomethacin reduces the production of prostaglandins that drive pain, fever and swelling. This helps to relieve symptoms in acute injuries, arthritis and menstrual cramps. It does not cure the underlying disease, but it can improve mobility and quality of life when used as prescribed.
Common uses include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout attacks, tendinitis, dental and postoperative pain, and cramps related to menstruation. Some patients use it briefly to manage headaches or other inflammatory pain. Always follow a clinician's plan and start with the lowest effective dose.
For adults a typical starting range is 25 to 50 mg two or three times daily. Take with meals or milk to protect the stomach. Do not exceed about 200 mg in a 24 hour period unless your doctor directs otherwise. Dosing may vary for gout or short term flare ups, and children require different schedules under medical advice.
Indomethacin often causes irritation of the stomach and intestines. To lessen this risk take the medicine with food, avoid alcohol, and use the smallest effective dose for the shortest time. People with ulcers, kidney or liver disease, or high blood pressure should review risks with a doctor before starting treatment.
Common side effects include heartburn, indigestion, nausea, dizziness and headaches. More serious problems can occur: ulcers or bleeding in the gut, kidney injury, high blood pressure, liver changes, severe skin reactions or asthma-like reactions in susceptible individuals. Seek care promptly if you notice severe symptoms.
Indomethacin can interact with blood thinners, other NSAIDs, steroids, certain antidepressants and lithium, raising the risk of bleeding, kidney injury or stomach damage. Do not combine without professional advice. Tell your pharmacist about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you take.
Pregnancy: avoid in late pregnancy, and discuss use if you are planning a pregnancy or nursing. The elderly may be more sensitive to adverse effects. Those with ulcers, kidney or liver disease, heart failure or high blood pressure should use it under close medical supervision and monitor for symptoms.
When ordering indomethacin from an online pharmacy, choose a reputable source, check the active ingredient and packaging, and read the dosing directions carefully. Store tablets in a cool, dry place away from children; keep the original container. If you miss a dose, do not double up—take the next one as directed by your pharmacist.
